Stainless Steel 440C Pipes are manufactured from a high-carbon martensitic stainless steel with an average of 16–18% chromium and 0.95–1.20% carbon content. The material can be heat-treated to obtain extremely high hardness, often up to 60 HRC. The pipes are characterized by high wear resistance, tensile strength of the order of 760–1000 MPa, and yield strength of about 450 MPa. Though corrosion resistance is poor and optimal in the hardened and tempered state, 440C provides excellent performance in abrasive and high-friction conditions. It is less weldable but is excellent where strength and surface hardness are essential.
